Is the islam really that bad as the western world wants us to think?
In july 2005 i met in Lappland, North Sweden, John McDonald from South Africa. He was occupied with his project "Capetown-Nord Kapp-Capetown" on a BMW 125cc cross motorcycle. In 2004 he drove from Patagonia to Mount McKinley, Alaska. "Just one way," he added. He said he promised his children to be back in Capetown December 18th.
To celebrate his 72nd birthday.
There were loads of questions i had for this extroadinary man, but perhaps one of them was most important: "What have you learned about human nature from travelling the complete world around?"
John looked at me for the longest seconds in my life, hand in his red beard, herited from his Scottish ancestors.
"People are allright. Except for the occasional bastard."
Of course islamic people are included in Johns wisdom.
Now i feel sorry i have not asked him: "Who is the occasional bastard?"
